Small ivory brush pot. Dated 1936

A small ivory brush pot of cylindrical shape with fine-line incisions of palace ladies on a terrace by a lotus pond and a pavilion in a garden with trees and rocks, some lines rubbed with ink, red and blue pigments. Inscribed with a verse, dated cyclically bingzi (1936) and sealed Xingyuan. An apocryphal four-character mark Qianlong to the base.
Height 9.1 cm

The inscription refers to the first line of the 94th chapter of the "Jinghuayuan" (Flowers in the Mirror), a fictional travel novel by Li Ruzhen, 1827.
