An ivory okimono of an emperor and a scholar sitting opposite each other, the emperor on a chair, the scholar on a stool and holding a scroll of the Kôkyô (chin. Xiaojing, the "Book of Filial Piety"), the 14th chapter of the Chûkyô (chin. Zhongjing, the "Book of Loyality"), between them a boy attendant with a tea tray. Signed Ono. Late 19th century.
