A 16th century French limestone figure of a holy bishop

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. Minimal remains of former polychromy. A figure of a bishop saint designed for a frontal viewpoint. He is depicted wearing robes, holding a crozier in his left hand and with his right hand raised in blessing. The clothing and figure are carved in fine detail, but the saint remains unidentified as the inscription to the front of the plinth (“Saint (…)”) is illegible.
The separately carved terminal of the crozier and two fingers lacking. Wear with losses, especially to the plinth. Height 92 cm.
