Pietro Calvi

A marble bust of Flora by Pietro Calvi

Worked in the round. Pietro Calvi was a pupil and employee of Giovanni Seleroni. He also worked for the Milan cathedral workshop and is best known for his fine genre sculptures. The present work is characterised by the fascinating contrast between the figure's smooth skin and the textured surfaces of the hair and flowers. The work is signed and dated "CALVI 1877 MILANO" to the reverse.
In very good condition with only minimal wear to the plinth. Height 68 cm (with socle).
