A gilt and painted lacquer tray. Ming dynasty, 17th century

A rectangular tray decorated to the centre on a red ground with a group of figures accompanied by two servants on a terrace. In the distance two islands. The curved rim in black with flowering branches and plants in gold lacquer. Four basketry panels to the outside.
Height 19.3 cm; width 35.2 cm

This piece most likely belongs to a group of painted trays made in the year 1615. Compare a similar piece inscribed and with the date yimao (1615) sold at Sotheby's London, 5.11.2014, lot 19.
