The Kaiser Friedrich Palais, or simply Alte Palais (old palace), is located at Unter den Linden 9 and is today used by the Humboldt University. The historic building has a colourful history: It was built between 1834-37 after designs by the architect Carl-Ferdinand Langhans and served as the living quarters and official residence of Prince William, the later King and Emperor of Prussia. The Emperor stood at the corner window of his study every day to watch the changing of the guard in the Neue Wache opposite the palace. We know little about the original palace inventory, as the building's use changed so often throughout the years, but this table is presumed to have once stood in one of the representational rooms or in a library.
