A Munich silver gilt goblet made for the health fund of the Munich locksmith's guild

The moulded base with floral chasing supporting a tall, waisted cuppa decorated with strapwork, shellwork, and flowers between four relief mascarons supporting loops for the missing guild shields. The domed lid with corresponding décor and crowned by a silver gilt figure of a griffon which presumably also originally supported a shield. The cuppa has been reinforced through the addition of a gilt copper inset in the course of old restoration work over a crack. H 41 cm.

Formerly in the possession of the health fund; auctioned by Helbing, Munich, auction no. 123, before 1923; aristocratic ownership, Germany.
