A painted wood nô mask of Sankôjô. Mid-18th century

A painted wood nô mask of Sankôjô, the face of the ancient peasant full of wrinkles, the open mouth with blackened teeth and strands of blond hair implanted at the head and chin. To the reverse an inscription in red lacquer reading Sankôjô Kodama Chôsaemon. Mid-18th century.
Kodama Tomimitsu as well as Kodama Naomitsu, son and grandson of the famous mask carver Kodama Ômi (?-1704) used the name of Chôzaemon.
