An Iga chawan. 17th century

An Iga chawan of hissengata type on a square foot with three cut-outs, covered inside and partly to the outside with a thin ochre-coloured glaze which forms darker spots and runs in streaks ending in dark green drops. Gold lacquer restoration to the rim. 17th century. Wooden box, silk cloth.
Height 7.6 cm; width 13.6 cm

The box with inscription reading Ko Iga hanatsumi. Hanatsumi (flower picking) is the name given to the chawan.
