An ivory netsuke of a sparrow-dancer. 19th century

An ivory netsuke of a sparrow dancer wearing an apron and a loin cloth tied into a thick bow at the back, a jacket with rolled-up sleeves, and hat with a thick band tied around the chin. The small engraved fukura suzume on the back identifies the man as sparrow dancer and disproves Bushell's opinion that the man represents a Tokaidô porter.
