Cast iron ceremonial dagger of the Berlin Freemasons

With original sheath. Memento mori decor with two bones, a skull, an owl, and an hourglass. Unmarked. L 30.5 cm.

The Count of Kanitz, to whom this dagger formerly belonged, was a member of the Grand National Mother Lodge, "The Three Globes", which was founded in 1740 and is the oldest Grand Lodge in Germany.

From the estate of the Prussian Major General and Freemason Rudolf Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von Kanitz (1822 - 1902).
