An East Tibetan thangka of Tsongkhapa. 18th/19th century

Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug order, seated on a lotus base at the centre, with the book and sword resting on lotus blossoms at his shoulders and flanked by his two disciples, Gyaltsap Dharma Rinchen and Kedrup Geleg Pal Zangpo with Maitreya in the Tushita Heaven set in a bank of clouds at the top and Vajrayogini, a dharmapala, Lhamo and Yama below. Inscriptions and seal to the reverse. Gouache and gold on cloth. Brocade mounting. Wear and small damages due to age. Framed and glazed.
