A Mongolian tsatsa with a portrait of Öndör Gegeen Zanabazar (1635-1723), in a ga´u. 19th century

Zanabazar seated in the centre on a lion throne, holding a bell and a vajra in his hands, with offerings of the five senses arrayed below him, surrounded by two deities, mahasiddhas, scholars and lamas. The tsatsa of polychromed clay and the copper ga´u with silver front.

Öndör Gegeen Zanabazar (1635-1723) was an important Mongolian religious figure and personal guru to the Kangxi Emperor (1654-1722). In addition Zanabazar is up to the present famous for his gilt bronze figures, subsequently carried out by the best Nepalese bronze casters.
