A boxwood netsuke of a tanuki with a temple gong by Alexander Derkachenko

Dressed in a long monk's robe, seated and bent over a huge temple gong, fearfully opening one eye, glancing at a threat. His right eye invisible under the eyelid seems to have gone blind. The open eye triple inlaid. Signed with the artist's initials DA on an round inlaid mammoth-ivory tablet to the underside.
