A Berlin silver chalice for the Soldin Lodge

Six-lobed base and waisted shaft supporting a flaring cuppa with gilt interior and Gothic tracery. Engraved with Masonic emblems and the inscription "H.Z.B. OR. SOLDIN" dated "5861". The lobed slip lid with corresponding decor and cone finial. H 38 cm, weight 569 g.
Marks of Franz Gustav David Vollgold, court goldsmith to the Prince Regent as of 1860, circa 1861.

In the mid-17th century, the Irish Bishop James Ussher calculated the world to have begun 4004 years before the birth of Christ. This date was adopted by the then very young Freemason movement. To simplify conversion to this calculation system, the rounded number 4000 was simply added to the current year. Thus, the date inscribed on this cup corresponds to 1861.
Soldin (known today as Myslibórz) is located in Western Pomerania. It is a district town and seat of the municipality of Gmina Myslibórz in Powiat Mysliborski.
