A dated Hachmann mortar

Golden brown cast bronze and slightly mottled remains of patina. Decorated with a vacant shield supported by two winged half figures. Two broad banderoles inscribed in Gothic majuscule surround the rim and the base, above: "johann torricht margrita syn huisfrouw", and below: "int jaer ons heren mvclxxii". The handles designed as stylised dolphins. H 14, D 15.1 cm. Weight 4.3 kg. Including a corresponding pestle.
