A dated mortar with the Virgin on the Crescent

Cast bronze with slightly mottled brown patina. With a depiction of the Madonna and Child in a sunburst, flowerheads, and inscribed "VXOR EIVS". With date and owner's coat-of-arms to the reverse "1573". The stepped rim with a broad banderole bearing the names of the patrons "MELCHIOR VAN WEITKEN STEN ELISABET DELSCHERS". H 16, D 18.6 cm. Weight 7.3 kg.
