A rare dated mortar with the Nomen Sacrum

Golden yellow bronze with natural patina. Conical vessel with disc form base and protruding moulded rim. Cast with the Christogramm flanked by the date "1516" and a conjoined "MA" monogram alonside the owner's initials "dF" and "MH". A high moulding to the centre above a band of large acanthus leaves. Twisted C-shaped handles. H 19.4, D 16.5 cm. Weight 7.6 kg.
Innsbruck, attributed to the Löffler foundry, 1516.
