A very large triangular embroidered silk banner. Late 19th century

In satin stitch and couched golden threads, at the centre a roundel with a coiled dragon with mirror glass eyes, to the lower part a phoenix greeted by the Hundred Birds, including a pair of peacocks, chicken and mandarin ducks and a multitude of other birds, some of them identified with written characters. A serrated wine-red border with the emblems of the Eight Immortals. Dark red silk lining.
