A Mechelen carved wood figure of the blessing Christ Child, early 16th century

Carved in the round. The polychromy partially stabilised, retouched and repainted in 2005. A figure of the nude Christ Child standing in contrapposto designed for a frontal viewpoint. He holds a globe in His left hand and His right hand is upheld in a blessing gesture. A characteristic example of the Mechelen workshops.
A hairline crack to the left bicep. Mounted on a wooden socle. Height 34.5 cm (with socle).
