A Tibetan gilt bronze figure of Maitreya. 17th century

Seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base with his hands in dharmacakramudra and holding the stems of lotuses blossoming at the shoulders, clad in a dhoti incised with fine pattern and the folds piled below the ankles. The jewels inset with hardstones. The face with applied cold gold and with polychromed mouth, eyes and eyebrows, the hair painted with black pigments. The sealed base incised with a double-vajra.
