An Islamic mortar

Cast and chased bronze, possible sintered early polychromy. Cylindrical form with flaring upper rim. Decorated with two rows of six raised teardrop motifs alternating with round bird medallions. Base rounded and cracked due to use. H 12.7, D 14 cm. Weight c. 3.6 kg.
Khorasan, 10th - 13th century.
