An Islamic mortar with bird motifs

Chased bronze with silver and copper damascening and remnants of red pigment. Originally of cylindrical form, rounded due to usage, with protruding rims. Decorated with six raised triangular bosses alternating with bird medallions. The upper border with a larger calligraphic inscription, the lower border with a smaller one. The base rounded slightly due to use, with nice signs of wear and sintering to the interior, some greenish corrosion. H 15.7, D 17.8 cm. Weight c. 7 kg.
