A mortar with mascaron decor

Thick cast bronze with natural patina. Of squat, tapering form with a moulded base and protruding flared rim. With four rounded vertical ribs alternating with grotesque mascarons in bas relief. H 9.2, D 14.5 cm. Weight c. 2.6 kg. Including a later pestle.
Attributed to the Iberian Peninsula, 17th century.
