An early French ribbed mortar

Thick golden brown cast bronze with shimmering dark brown patina. Of squat, tapering form with protruding flared rim. Ten twisted vertical ribs. The rounded lower section decorated with mascarons alternating with Bourbon lily motifs. Pierced zoomorphic handles. H 9.7, D 13.5 cm. Weight c. 2.5 kg.
