A rare one-handled mortar with a crucifixion motif

Cast bronze with fine golden brown patina. Of tapering form with a broad flaring moulded rim and base. With five longer and one shorter ribs and a round medallion with a depiction of the crucifixion to the front. One angular handle. Some minor tension cracks to the body due to usage. H 20.5, D 18.5 cm. Weight c. 6.2 kg.
Germany, probably Saxony, 15th century.
