A Hachmann mortar made for Sibert and Elysabet Botliembecher

Golden brown cast bronze with shimmering natural patina, partially engraved. Both sides decorated with shields held by two demi-figures and two putti. The rim and the centre with cymatium mouldings. With two broad bands below the rim and around the base inscribed in Gothic minuscule and Latin majuscule: “sibert botliembecher elysabet syn huisfrouw” and “ANNO DOMINI M VC LXXVIII”. H 15.7, D 16.4 cm. Weight c. 5.1 kg.
