Dated Italian mortar for a curia member

Golden brown cast bronze with slightly mottled dark brown patina. Decorated with a coat of arms with an eagle and a pitcher supported by winged putti and flanked by overflowing cornucopia with perching doves. The reverse inscribed with the date and the name of the patron in capital letters: "M D C L X II PIOIS ANTONII SCARSII S THEOL DOCT ET PROTHONOT APOSTOL". The rim with festoons, arabesques, and putto mascarons. The handles not smoothed down. H 18, D 20.5 cm. Weight c. 8 kg.
Attributed to Rome, 1662.
