A Meissen porcelain bust of King Friedrich August I of Saxony

Biscuit porcelain bust of the king wearing the Saxon “hausorden” with the motto"PROVIDENTIAE MEMOR". Blue crossed swords mark with pronounced pommels. The frills of the jabot broken during firing and subsequently reattached. H 26.5 cm, with walnut veneered plinth 46.5 cm.
19th C., modelled by Johann Daniel Sch?e, 1817.

Prince Elector Friedrich August III of Saxony (1750 - 1827) was already 56 years old when he was pronounced King Friedrich August I in 1806. This bust, produced in 1817, presents the king how he wanted to be depicted, as this exact motif was also reiterated in a posthumous portrait painted by Carl Christian Vogel von Vogelstein in 1823, which is listed among the pieces lost from the Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden during WWII.
