Of rectangular shape with rounded corners, decorated with ferns in gold maki-e on a roiro ground. Original box, the inscription on the lid reading Honaga (ferns) maki-e hirobuta and sealed Heian and Minoya sei.

The Minoya lacquer workshop was founded in 1772 in Kyoto and thrived especially in the Meiji and Taishô periods and 1943 produced lacquerware in occasion of the wedding of Princess Terunomiya (Shigeko) to Prince Higashikuni. Realizing that it would no longer be possible to maintain its high standards, in 1945 Inagaki Sôichirô, the owner of Minoya, closed the business.
