A large bronze vase by Nakajima Yasumi II (1906-1988). Osaka. Ca. 1960s/1970s

Of elongated ovoid shape with grooves at the shoulder and a tubular neck with two handles. Red patina areas. Marked to the base Yasumi. Original wooden box, the inscription on the lid reading Shudô mimitsuke kabin (bronze flower vase with handles), on the reverse signed Yasumi saku and sealed.

Nakajima Yasumi II (1906-1988) was born in Osaka as the eldest son of the bronze caster Nakajima Toyotsugu Yasumi I (1877-1952). He graduated from the Kokuritsu kogei shidôsho (National craft school) in Sendai. From 1948 onward he was a frequent exhibitor at the Nitten and in 1952 he won its prestigious Hokutosho (North star prize). In 1969 he received the honour as a person of merit in crafts from Osaka prefecture.
