A quilted cotton fireman’s jacket (hikeshi hanten). Around 1900

The overall fabric consisting of several layers of black quilted cotton in sachiko technique, the collar bearing on the right the characters Hankin shôbôgumi (The Hankin firemen company) and on the left the characters shôbô (firemen) and possibly the designation of rank te (hand), at the back a large round emblem with the characters Hankin. Along the shoulders and sleeves one red stripe, above the lower seam two white stripes.
