An ivory okimono of a boy as a manzai dancer. Tokyo. Late 19th century

The boy holding an open fan and jingles stands dancing on one foot on a large double-headed barrel-shaped drum, the heads inlaid in mother-of-pearl and engraved with a mitsu-tomoe motif, the nails affixing the heads to the body of black horn. Two mallets on the base. Signed Gyokkô on an inlaid red lacquer tablet.
