A stag horn netsuke of the head of a kappa. 19th century

Carved from a stained stag horn rose with a thick hairline, the expressive eyes inlaid with white mother of pearl with pupils of black horn. A row of pointed, separately inlaid bone teeth in the moveable lower jaw.
Height 3.5 cm

Estate of Albert Brockhaus (1855 – 1921), acquired at James Tregaskis, London, 4.2.1904
