A courtly opal brooch

Two-part silver and 14k red gold pendant brooch. Of pierced cartouche design with symmetrical Baroque style tendrils with cushion shaped diamonds and small rose-cut diamonds (in total c. 15.50 ct, M-P, vs-si). Brooch with four large diamonds of c. 1.25 ct each (M-P, vs), centrered by a large oval opal cabochon (c. 18.3 x 13.6 mm) surrounded by 19 diamonds. The removable pendant with four large stones and an opal droplet (c. 17.3 x 10.6 mm). Presumably originally part of a set of bridal jewellery, with amendments and minor repairs, the upper opal severely damaged. H 8.5 cm. W 6.5 cm. Total weight 40.12 g.
