A goblet and cover dedicated to Tsarina Elisabeth Petrovna

Round foot supporting a faceted baluster shaft and tapering cup issuing from a rounded faceted join with a bubble inclusion. Decorated with a portrait of the Tsarina in a cartouche flanked by trophies and the double-headed eagle, inscribed in Cyrillic "Long live Russia". The original lid with a faceted finial and tendrils. The finial chipped. H 29.3 cm.
Attributed to St. Petersburg, after 1741.

Elizabeth Petrovna (1709 - 61), daughter of Peter the Great and the later Tsarina Catherine I, became Empress of Russia in 1741. The English merchant William Elmsel founded the St. Petersburg glass workshop on the banks of the river Fontanka in the mid-1730s. The manufactory mainly produced table glass for the imperial court.
