A parcel gilt silver pomander formed as a book

Designed as a miniature book concealing two compartments, the first of which divided into six further compartments. The inner front cover engraved with the alphabet, the back with the inscription "Vogel Beij Nacht / Fisch Beij Tag" and owner's monogram "W.S.M.V". With a small bail and chain. Unmarked. H 3.2; W 2.6; D 1.2 cm, weight 36 g.
Presumably South German, 17th C.
