A red satin embroidered chair cover. Late 19th century

Displaying a lion with a brocade ball, a large peony within a lobed border, a large caparisoned elephant carrying a jar with jewels and other treasures on its back, and a stylised shou character, all in couched gold threads and little embroidery of multicoloured silk threads. Backed with fabric. A bit soiled at the the lower end.
