A mortar with mascaron handles

Cast bronze with dark brown patina, chased decoration and some engravings. Cylindrical mortar with vertically faceted exterior and central semicircular motifs on each face. The handles on either side formed as bearded men's heads. The base rounded due to use, a minor loss to the rim. H 9.7, W c. 13 cm, weight c. 2.1 kg.
