A magnificent German mortar with dolphin handles

Cast bronze with golden brown patina. Of narrow, tapering form with a protruding rim and two dolphin handles. Decorated with several mouldings in the centre. With a wide banderole below the rim inscribed in Latin capital letters: “WILH M KELLER A M POT ANNO 1699” above a band of delicate scrolling arabesques. Some smaller and one larger (1 cm) dents around the rim and base. H 19.5, D 18.8 cm, weight c. 10.3 kg.
