A Dutch mortar from 1646

Golden brown cast bronze with caramel coloured natural patina. Mortar with a thick, tiered base. The centre decorated with several mouldings flanked above and below by acanthus leaves and scrolling foliage surrounding a central winged angel's head. With a wide banderole below the rim inscribed in Latin capital letters: “FRANCISCVS ROEN ME FECIT Ao 1646”. With small zoomorphic handles. Minor dents to the rim. H 14.5, D 16 cm, weight c. 5 kg.
