A mortar with hippocampus handles

Cast bronze with finely shimmering blackish brown patina. Decorated on both sides with faun's heads in scroll cartouches flanked by female heads above drapery. A breakage to the rim, a casting flaw to the base. H 10.8, D 13 cm, weight c. 1.6 kg.
Northern Italy, 2nd half 16th C.
