A Roman box with pastiglia decoration

Oblong softwood box decorated on the outer faces in raised pastiglia technique over gilding with strapwork and acanthus, the lid with an oval coat-of-arms bearing a nine-pointed crown. Resting on four zoomorphic feet, the lid with a cushioned lining. With gilt wrought iron mountings.
Secret compartment in the lid: the lid slides open to the right, painted on the underside with the full-length portraits of St. Barbara and St. Joseph in a Renaissance arcade in front of an Italian landscape.
