Portrait of Piero di Piero Bini

Oil on panel (parquetted). 89 x 68 cm.

This portrait of Piero di Piero Bini, a member of the old Florentine patrician family Bini, is thought to have been painted in 1588 and can possibly be attributed to the Florentine painter Giovanni Maria Butteri, who painted portraits of other members of the family. The sitter's brother, Giovanni di Piero Bini, was portrayed in a similar way by Butteri in a painting also dated 1588, so that the works can perhaps be interpreted as a series of family portraits. The portrait of Giovanni di Piero Bini was auctioned at Sotheby's in London on 4.6.2013 and, according to their catalogue, the attribution to Butteri was confirmed in writing by Dott. Carlo Falciani.

Provenance

Italian private ownership.
