Angelo di Mariano, attributed to

A terracotta angel from an Annunciation attributed to Angelo di Mariano

Stained terracotta figure worked in the round, the inside hollowed out. The bust is probably a representation of an angel, as the two round indentations on the back may have been used to attach wings made of a different material. Angelo di Mariano, the younger brother of the influential Sienese sculptor Lorenzo di Mariano, called Il Marrina (1476-1534), has been suggested as the work's possible author.
Very minimal wear to the reverse. Height 27 cm.

Provenance

South German private collection.
