A terracotta figure of Saint Anthony by Domenico Piò

Worked in two parts, the back of the figure and the plinth hollowed out. With uniform older polychromy. The plinth contains a relic of Saint Anthony. This work is an example of the kind of terracotta devotional figures that were popular and widely produced in the workshops of Bologna throughout the 18th century. The monogram “D.P.F.“ on the back of the piece secures its attribution to Domenico Piò.
Very minimal wear. Height 62 cm (with plinth).
