Limoges 13th century

A 13th century Limoges enamel pyx

Enamelled, engraved and gilt copper. Pyx of slightly oval section with a hinged cone-shaped lid and cross finial. The outer surface decorated with a design of regular white enamel arches with foliate scrolls in the spandrels, each encompassing the as yet unidentified coat-of-arms of a donor with diagonal red and white beams.
Wear with losses to the enamel Height 11.5 cm, diameter 8.5 cm.
