A bronze basin of pan type. Probably Shandong province. Early Eastern Zhou dynasty, 8th century BC

Over a sloping ring foot, the basin with inverted U-shaped handles rises to a sharply everted rim. The decorative frieze around the basin shows highly stylized recumbent S-shaped dragons, the foot displays a band of large U-shaped scales. A rough green patina covers the surface.
