A painted Cizhou meiping vase. Yuan-/early Ming dynasty

The narrow lower body sweeping to a broad shoulder and rising to an upright short cylindrical neck, covered overall with a creamy-ivory slip stopping above the foot revealing the gray body, and painted in blackish brown with cranes between pine trees, all between scrolling flowers and under a clear glaze. To the base an inscription in black: Jihao ... Xizhou (possibly referring to the minister of rituals Zhang Rongduan who lived in Fuyang, now Cizhou, in the 17th century). Neck polished.
