A bronze vase. Around 1950

The body shaped as a bud from which rises the tall slender neck. Shiny brown speckled patina. On the base signed in seal-script characters Yasumi (Nakajima Yasumi II, 1906-1988). Tomobako, the lid with an inscription reading, shudo nozomi kabin and signed and sealed Yasumi, the long inscription on the reverse of the lids states that this vase was presented to the Mizuno shop in Showa 30 (1955), 2nd month, 9th day.

Nakajima Yasumi II (1905-1988) is the eldest son of bronze artist Yasumi I (1877-1950) born in Osaka. Yasumi II graduated from the National Craft Institute of Sendai and in 1933 participated for the first time in the Exhibition of Applied Arts for Export organized by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. He exhibited several times abroad including Paris and Buenos Aires. He was also consistently accepted in the Nitten exhibitions, winning the Hokuto-sho there in 1952. In 1969 he received an honor as a person of merit in Crafts from Osaka prefecture.
